Late Submissions (2 Additional Scenes + 1 Re-Render)
Thank you so much once again for the generous extension!
I took the advice I received in class and office hours and greatly simplified my additional two scenes. It was very convenient to already have the full neighborhood modeled, and I used it in my new scenes as well to give the fly-throughs more visual impact. My goal was to focus on storytelling over modeling, and concealing/revealing details through cinematography. I knew I didn't have enough time to properly model the topiaries, so I hid them behind the castle walls & in the dark backyards, where they add some fun texture to the scenes and help with storytelling.
Re-do of Shot 3 from Scene 1 (neighborhood before Edward shows up.) Scene 2: Peg arrives at the castle. Scene 3: Edward's ice sculpture in Peg's backyard.
Edward Scissorhands: The Burbs (Original Submission)
The glitches are, um, a commentary on the fragility & falseness of suburbia. Totally.
Well... this has really been a learning experience! My respect for professional 3D animators has quadrupled.
I ran out of time before I could complete the other 2 scenes and 6 fly-throughs required for this project. The reasons: a surprising innate difficulty to visualize 3D scenes, and a general inefficiency to manage collections of models & intelligently subdivide individual meshes. This scene took 15 hours for me to make, and clearly still has many flaws. However, kind of like the inventor who built Edward Scissorhands, I'm still proud and thrilled by my low-key monstrous creation.
 Live and learn...
